Mothers Day

2015-03-15 13.46.52Lovely flowers from oldest son.  My absolute favourites for this time of year – seasonal, local, not hot-housed or freighted.

Promise of (yet another) day’s work later in the week from youngest son, to finally finish off Hen Heaven and the Big Move.

Thank you both, so much appreciated and so much enjoyed.

My mother-in-law was strict in her insistence of today being called Mothering Sunday, honouring its origins in the Christian tradition.  For me it’s just Mothers Day, I come from a different tradition.  Either way, the day matters.  It’s a day when we remember to say thank you to all our mothers for everything they’ve been able to give us.

As the mother of two sons, I now count myself lucky to also be mother in/out law to two lovely young women.  I’m no longer a minority of one in a household of four.  The feminist in me has really enjoyed the experience of bringing up sons, and anyone spending time with them would have to say that we’ve done a pretty good job (but then they had a great role model in Malcolm).

So, here’s to us, the mothers, and to the fathers too.  But that’s another Day (and another post).

(I know, two posts in one day.  But really I’m just catching up – wanted to post the one about Pi Day yesterday, actually on the day).

About deborah @ the magic jug

Now I've passed 60 I'm still doing all sorts of things I haven't done before, as well as carrying on with the things I already love. I live a happy life with my long term love Malcolm. In my blog I explore local and low tech ideas, food, growing, making, reading, thinking, walking, and lots of other words ending in 'ing'.

I love to read your comments. I don't expect everyone to agree with me, and I don't mind if you don't. However, I ask you to respect the 'circle time' rules made by my son's primary school teacher: make a comment, ask a question or say something nice. Thank you!
