A quiet Sunday

At last, one of those lazy, quiet Sundays where everything fits and relaxes, and nothing feels tough.

A long and lazy breakfast, interspersed with some gentle baking (a batch of bread, and a Dutch Apple Cake* for the afternoon – the photo doesn’t do it justice, it looks and tastes delicious).

A lovely, local walk (Southstoke to Combe Hay and back to Southstoke), on paths, though a stream and a tunnel, through woods and fields.  With some amazing views and historic former canal locks along the way (part of what was the Somerset Coal Canal).  Flasks and sandwich snack along the way.  And suddenly so many spring flowers.

Light lunch at home, then an hour pottering on the allotment.

Sociable family meeting to sort out some stuff we have to organise.

More time out on the allotment, mostly chatting with friends and neighbours.

And finally some quiet ripple time in front of the TV.  She’s really coming on, don’t you think?

No crises, no illnesses or operations, no dramas.

Bliss.  More of this please, and less of the other stuff.

* Dutch Apple Cake – recipe from Evelyn Rose’s big book.  More of which later.

In my blog I explore local and low tech ideas, food, growing, making, reading, thinking, walking, and lots of other words ending in 'ing'.

I love to read your comments. I don't expect everyone to agree with me, and I don't mind if you don't. However, I ask you to respect the 'circle time' rules made by my son's primary school teacher: make a comment, ask a question or say something nice. Thank you!
