Milestones

Two major milestones in our lives (already) this month.

First of all, we completed the sale of my mother-in-law’s flat, which was the last piece of the admin and paperwork following her death.

As a result both sons and their partners have been supported to buy a home of their own, so four young people who wouldn’t otherwise have been able to own a home can now do so, just from our bit of the family.  Something good from something sad.  She would have approved.

Then yesterday we set a bench in a beautiful spot, in memory of my mum.  We were able to put her ashes underneath it.  It’s a lovely bench with a lovely view, and as the builders worked to set it there, lots of passers-by commented on how nice it would be to have it there, and what a great thing to do.

It’s in a place that mum and my step-father often walked before she became ill and they used to say how nice it would be to have a bench there.  Now others can enjoy it, and we can go there if we want a focus for our memories.

Mum loved walking, and always enjoyed a good bench.  It’s taken us three years to get round to doing this, but the time was right.

The photos below doesn’t do justice to the lovely flower meadow between the bench and the trees.  Hidden in the far trees are the river with the canal above.  A great spot.

(Several passers-by also commented that it was only a matter of time before it is vandalised.  This may be so, we accept that, but we can’t allow it to deter us from placing the bench there).

Life goes on.

Lovely to have a bench in a beautiful place to sit and remember your mum. And how great that your sons have been helped to buy homes. As you say, a bit of good to come from something sad.

I love to read your comments. I don't expect everyone to agree with me, and I don't mind if you don't. However, I ask you to respect the 'circle time' rules made by my son's primary school teacher: make a comment, ask a question or say something nice. Thank you!
