Moving on

We have to look forwards, not back.

We have to work with what is, not what we wish.

We have to find hope, and use that to move forward positively.

It’s worth reminding ourselves that more Americans voted Democrat than Republican.

We have to practice kindness, community, solidarity, resistance.

About deborah @ the magic jug

Now I've passed 60 I'm still doing all sorts of things I haven't done before, as well as carrying on with the things I already love. I live a happy life with my long term love Malcolm. In my blog I explore local and low tech ideas, food, growing, making, reading, thinking, walking, and lots of other words ending in 'ing'.

It is as though we’ve somehow slipped into a parallel world where substance and depth, kindness and respect, thoughtfulness and integrity are irrelevant. We must hold fast. There are many, many people who still think like we do 🙂

    • Exactly. I found the viciousness and lack of respect in both the Brexit and US campaigns deeply shocking. Interestingly, I just edited my post to add the word ‘kindness’ before I came across your comment.

I often rant about the lack of kindness in the world generally and in our community and I’m always telling my kids to be kind! It’s hugely underrated.

  2. Wise words. Feel like we had a rehearsal of this in June. It’s certainly been a year for trying to stay positive!

We Americans are reeling. Well, some of us. I know this is not just our problem. This is global. But I so appreciate your uplifting post in the wake of our pain and fear and grief.

    • Oh Rita, I can hardly begin to imagine how it must feel for you. You’re right, it is global, but how much harder for you than for us.
I’ve been reflecting on what we can do as individuals to move us on from despair and hopelessness, and one of them for me at least is to make contact with the Americans we have some personal connection with, even if ‘just’ via the internet. It matters.

I love to read your comments. I don't expect everyone to agree with me, and I don't mind if you don't. However, I ask you to respect the 'circle time' rules made by my son's primary school teacher: make a comment, ask a question or say something nice. Thank you!
