‘It’s coming through a hole in the air…..’

Last year when I was in Birmingham staying at the Quaker retreat centre I took part in their evening Epilogue meetings.   I mentioned it in passing when I wrote about it here.

One evening we watched a YouTube video of Leonard Cohen signing ‘Democracy is coming to the USA’, with visuals of Occupy Wall Street.  I found it very powerful, and it moved me deeply.  You can find the full lyrics here if you want.

Little did I imagine that barely a year later, in one week, that video might have such poignancy.

You can watch it here if you want to.  It may make you weep, or it may charge you with some energy to take control and make change happen.  Or maybe both.

Sail on, sail on
Oh mighty ship of State
To the shores of need
Past the reefs of greed
Through the Squalls of hate
Sail on, sail on, sail on, sail on

I’d like to say to any American readers out there, many of us here stand with many of you there.  We are shocked, saddened, but not defeated.  We hope you can take some heart from that.

About deborah @ the magic jug

Now I've passed 60 I'm still doing all sorts of things I haven't done before, as well as carrying on with the things I already love. I live a happy life with my long term love Malcolm. In my blog I explore local and low tech ideas, food, growing, making, reading, thinking, walking, and lots of other words ending in 'ing'.

I love to read your comments. I don't expect everyone to agree with me, and I don't mind if you don't. However, I ask you to respect the 'circle time' rules made by my son's primary school teacher: make a comment, ask a question or say something nice. Thank you!
