Saturday’s come around again, and time to play (no jobs to do, want to keep the weekends different).
Starting with a family zoom call. We’ve had and heard of such good experiences with this. A friend told of us his Seder night, where getting together is normally at the heart of the thing, done on zoom with people in 12 different places. It took a lot of planning, but was well worth the effort. It challenges our preconceptions of what ‘togetherness’ looks and feels like. Of course nothing can substitute for a hug, but when some things are off limits, we can choose to focus on missing them or we can find something as an alternative (and of course both at the same time).
Then on to some gentle pottering in the kitchen – lots of growing going on here. This morning it was more yoghurt making, getting the sourdough starter fed ready for some bread baking tomorrow, and I have some mange tout peas planted to give us a supply of pea shoots to add to salads (not sure if these will germinate or not – they’re old seed that I thought I’d give a try – if they’re still viable I’ll post some off to friends and family who might enjoy growing some themselves, if not they’ll go in the compost).
I decided that today was going to be all about gentle things. A walk, yoga, some sitting around reading, and probably some more work on a little blanket I’m crocheting out of small oddments of yarn, for a certain little girl’s doll (‘Baby”). I think she’ll like it – putting Baby to bed (and instructing her sternly not to wake up in the night) is quitel a big thing with her. If only she would learn to take her own advice….. I think there would be some happy, more rested, parents. .
I hope this finds you well, and able to be gentle with yourself at least some of the time.
See you tomorrow.
I am really loving reading your diary entries during this strange time. It’s just reassuring, so thank you! PennyL in Dorsetx
